Suki Waterhouse welcomed her first baby earlier this month. After a chic bump-baring pregnancy, featuring countless maternity fashion hits, the singer and actor – who is 32 – is now being transparent about what postpartum life is really like.
While many in the public eye would have us believe they “bounced back” the week after their baby’s birth – displaying unmistakably taut abs and bright eyes to boot (when are they sleeping?!) – Waterhouse’s mirror selfie shows a more realistic depiction of daily life as a new mum.
Wearing FridaMom’s Disposable Postpartum Underwear (soft and stretchy recovery-wear which keep pads in place), a soft, easy-access bra and an oversized cardigan, Waterhouse’s post-birth belly and messy hair were reassuringly in shot. Oh, and so was a bottle of milk, gripped in one hand, and a visible floor-drobe in the background.

Photos like these matter – it’s reassuring to see someone famous being authentic about the realities of bringing a new life into the world. While many of us know the fourth trimester can be exhausting, challenging and completely overwhelming (along with all the good stuff), most of what we see on social media are mirages of perfection. Inauthenticity which doesn’t help anyone.
So hats off to Waterhouse for making the rest of us feel like we’re not alone on those long, sleepless nights. And yes, big pants and stretchy bras are a winning combo, we won’t hear otherwise.
